T. Boone Pickens and Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) President and CEO Roy Willis discuss propane's role in reducing dependence on foreign oil while helping the environment.

Propane is an important domestic energy resource-that's why it's part of the Pickens Plan. Commercially, propane is the only reliable source of gas for people, businesses, ranches, and farms in rural America beyond the natural gas utilities.

Propane is also very portable. Most people use it for outdoor grilling, although it is used as a heating and cooking fuel in homes where natural gas lines are out of reach.

Best of all, it's clean, abundant, and domestic. It's an important part of the Pickens Plan.

The central theme of the Pickens Plan is to expand the use of domestic alternatives, thus reducing our dependence on foreign oil and enhancing our national security. Propane is a very good fit because as a proven domestic, alternative fuel, it can help cut our use of foreign oil. Propane is also clean. It's a low-carbon alternative fuel that creates significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions and smog-producing hydrocarbons than traditional fossil fuels. That makes it a good fit with our goal of reducing energy's impact on the environment.
